Clergy for the Ordinariate begin formation
Thursday 17th March 2011

Over sixty former Anglican clergy began their formation for the Catholic priesthood today at Allen Hall, a Catholic seminary in London.

Built on the site of St Thomas More's home, Allen Hall's Rector, Monsignor Mark O'Toole, gave a warm welcome to all present whilst the Revd Dr Stephen Wang, Dean of Studies, led the group as they prepare for Catholic ordination.

Mass for the feast of St Patrick was celebrated by Monsignor Keith Newton, the Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, and concelebrated by staff of the seminary and clergy of the Ordinariate. Monsignor Andrew Burnham gave the homily.

The future clergy of the Ordinariate were able to spend time with the seminarians of Allen Hall over a good lunch, preceded by a rousing rendition of Ad multos annos, sung in honour of the new monsignori.

From now until after ordination to the priesthood, the clergy will continue weekly formation studying the Catholic faith through Catechism of the Catholic Church. After Pentecost, and ordination to the sacred priesthood, this academic and spiritual formation will continue for up to two years.
